Taking into consideration simple principles of probability, it's obvious that the actions we take factor into what happens to us greatly. "Good fortune" is often times simply a result of consistently applied positive action over a long period of time creating opportunity. A person who believes this quote would end up depressed and probably suicidal for no reason at all. Smh
