We Should All Be Feminists - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

This quote a été ajouté par kaceyc
We spend too much time teaching girls to worry about what boys think of them. But the reverse is not the case. We don't teach boys to care about being likable. We spend too much time telling girls that they cannot be angry or aggressive or tough, which is bad enough, but then we turn around and either praise or excuse men for the same reasons. All over the world, there are so many magazine articles and books telling women what to do, how to be and not to be, in order to attract or please men.

So bullshit lmfao if you aren't a guy who attracts female attention you're seen way more as a loser than the inverse. In our current patriarchy, yes patriarchy, girls are taught that they need to be pretty and submissive and that they are not capable. This is bad, but in the flip side of things men are taught that they do not have worth unless they are capable, funny, cunning, smart and so on. Women who are virgins, for example, aren't frowned upon unless they're like 26 or something. Guys, on the other hand, are seen as losers for the same reason. So many friends of mine have expressed sentiments like "your opinions are only worth as much as your bodycount" which is something you would NEVER see in female circles. Women are objectified, this is wrong, and they're told that they're only pretty faces, but on the opposite men are all in competition with each other and its very alienating

I think you've missed the point of the quote @gtrreaper43 - this isn't about whether or not men are behaving as gentlemen. This is about how females spend an inordinate amount of time/energy worrying about what males think of them because it is expected of women to please men, and to partner up with them. Because men have no such societal pressures on them, they don't spend so much time worrying about how they are perceived by females and can just be themselves.

Also - just to let you know....if you want to behave like a 'gentleman', you'll need to stop referring to women as 'girls'. You have referred to males as 'men' and have referred to females as 'girls'. Do you see the discrepancy?

no offense or anything but the reason men aren't taught to be gentlemen is because their dads didn't teach them correctly. No me on the other hand was taught on how to treat a girl the way she is supposed to be treated. Now I can't speak for all the other men out their that do what this quote says but I can speak for myself. But I have to say a great quote indeed.
