Herbert Spencer had many followers and his theory of organic evolution remained in vogue till the end of the 19th century. But by the beginning of the 20th century his biological interpretation of the social phenomena was displaced by psychological interpretation. Attempts were made to show how the evolution of society is dependent upon the evolution of human mind.
