"Anxiety for Beginners: A Personal Investigation" by Eleanor Morgan is a thoughtful exploration of anxiety, combining personal memoir with research on mental health. Morgan delves into her own struggles with anxiety and panic attacks, blending her story with interviews, scientific insights, and practical advice. The book aims to demystify anxiety and offer hope to those who suffer from it by helping readers understand its origins, effects, and management.
Detailed Summary:
Personal Journey:
Eleanor Morgan shares her experience with anxiety, from childhood symptoms to a full-blown panic disorder in her adult life. She provides raw and honest accounts of her struggles, making the narrative relatable for readers who also experience anxiety.
Through her story, Morgan shows how anxiety can manifest in physical and emotional ways and emphasizes the importance of recognizing symptoms early.
Understanding Anxiety:
Morgan offers a deep dive into the science behind anxiety, explaining how it affects the brain and body. She draws on expert opinions, historical context, and scientific research to demystify anxiety disorders.
She discusses how societal pressures, environmental factors, and genetics play a role in triggering anxiety. The book explores how past trauma and stress contribute to the development of anxiety disorders, and why some people are more susceptible than others.
The Impact of Anxiety on Daily Life:
The book explores how anxiety can influence daily life, relationships, work, and physical health. Morgan describes her experiences with hypervigilance, catastrophizing, and the constant fear of panic attacks, painting a vivid picture of how anxiety takes over one's mind.
She also explores how anxiety affects self-esteem and confidence, and how the stigma surrounding mental health often makes people feel isolated.
Coping Mechanisms and Treatment:
Morgan provides an honest look at the treatments she has tried, including therapy, medication, and lifestyle changes. She emphasizes that treatment is often a trial-and-error process, with no one-size-fits-all solution.
She discusses the role of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and self-care routines in managing anxiety. The importance of seeking professional help is also highlighted, as well as the benefits and challenges of medication.
Societal and Cultural Influence:
The book examines how societal norms and pressures can exacerbate anxiety, particularly in relation to gender. Morgan reflects on how women often face higher expectations and emotional labor, which can increase feelings of stress and anxiety.
She critiques the culture of busyness and perfectionism, which can make people feel inadequate and overwhelmed.
Key Lessons and Takeaways:
Recognizing Anxiety:
One of the main lessons is learning to recognize the symptoms of anxiety and understanding that it is a treatable condition. Morgan encourages readers to be mindful of how anxiety manifests in their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations.
You Are Not Alone:
Morgan emphasizes that anxiety is a common experience, and sufferers are not alone. By sharing her own story and the stories of others, she shows that many people struggle with anxiety and that seeking help is a sign of strength.
Importance of Treatment:
The book stresses the importance of seeking treatment, whether through therapy, medication, or other forms of support. Morgan advocates for finding what works best for each individual and reminds readers that recovery can take time.
Challenge Stigmas:
A key takeaway is the importance of challenging the stigma around mental health issues. Morgan highlights how societal views of anxiety can make it difficult for sufferers to seek help, but she encourages open conversations to normalize mental health struggles.
Self-Acceptance:
Morgan encourages readers to practice self-compassion and accept that anxiety is part of who they are, but it doesn’t define them. She promotes mindfulness and self-care as vital components of managing anxiety.
The Role of Society:
Morgan urges readers to critically examine the role society plays in exacerbating anxiety, particularly through unrealistic standards of success, beauty, and productivity. Recognizing these pressures can help individuals take steps to alleviate unnecessary stress.
Final Thoughts:
"Anxiety for Beginners" is a valuable resource for anyone who suffers from anxiety or knows someone who does. Through personal storytelling and accessible research, Morgan offers hope and practical advice. Her message is clear: while anxiety can be overwhelming, understanding it and seeking help are the first steps to reclaiming control over one’s mental health.

The Commonwealth Games, the second largest sports competition in the world after Olympics, are an international competition held every four years for athletes belonging to the Commonwealth of Nations or the nations that majorly formed a part of the British Empire during the colonial rule. The event, essentially, is a world-class multisport meet of athletes from around the world which is governed by Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). Hailed as "Non Political", the Commonwealth is a voluntary association of independent sovereign democracy and development to improve social cultural relationship and promotion of Human Rights.
The most recent of the games was held in Birmingham, England. The 22nd Commonwealth Games held stands testimony to the bright future of Indian athletes who bought home 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze medals.
History of Commonwealth Games
The idea behind one of the most prestigious of sporting event was proposed by John Ashley Copper proposed a sporting competition to bring together members of the British Empire in 1891, writing letters and articles for several periodicals proposing a "Pan Brittanic, Pan Anglican contest once every four years as a way of increasing goodwill and acceptance of the British Empire." As a result, an Inter-Empire Championship was hosted during the Festival of Empire in 1911 at The Crystal Palace in London to commemorate George V's coronation. Teams representing Australia and New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, as well as the United Kingdom contested athletics, boxing, swimming, and wrestling events.
However, the official event can be traced back to 1930 when the Games were held for the first time int city of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and saw the participation of 400 athletes from eleven countries. Since then, the CWG have been held every fur years with 54 members of the Commonwealth of Nations and around 71 countries participating in the games.
The games have also changed since the times of its inception. In 2001, the three core values of Humanity, Equality and Destiny were adopted as the motto of the Commonwealth Games.

Meereen is enclosed by a great wall, with hundreds of defenders to guard it. Daenerys's huge army consists mostly of freed slaves. They are eating up the surrounding lands, and Daenerys realizes that she must claim the city before the army starves. Aware that storming the walls will cost her a great deal, Daenerys sends Strong Belwas to dispatch the Hero of Meereen. Belwas kills Oznak zo Pahl, but the city still stands strong. Brown Ben Plumm reveals a way into the city through the sewers. Dany's dragons seem to like Brown Ben, and they perch on his shoulder when he visits.
Daenerys finds herself drawn to Daario Naharis, and she keeps thinking of his blue eyes. Later, she goes off with Arstan and Missandei to visit the camps, and there she is attacked by Mero of Braavos. Arstan kills the Titan's Bastard with his staff alone, and when Dany reaches her pavilion, Jorah is shocked to learn that a squire with a staff could defeat Mero with such ease. Arstan reveals that he is actually a knight, and Jorah finally recognizes him as Barristan the Bold. Barristan apologizes for deceiving her, and swears his sword in her service. Jorah warns her not to accept the man, for he went over to Robert after the Trident. Barristan reveals that Jorah has spied on her on behalf of Varys and the small council in hopes of gaining a royal pardon. Jorah pleads that he did so only at first, but he has been loyal to her since the birth of the dragons. Daenerys, disgusted, dismisses them both. She does not want them in her service any more. When she wonders where to send them, she suddenly has an idea.
