What really helped me improve my typing speed is...slowing down. I know that may sound funny but slowing down and feeling each letter individually as you type helps solidify finger memory. Typing speed increases because you don't have as many mistakes to correct.

When my fingers hurt after too much time on the keyboard, I...take a break and do something else for a while, maybe some stretching, and they tend to bounce back quite well.
