If you redefine hope as something biological, it doesn't go way just because you're feeling discouraged. You can imagine that you're hopeful at the cellular level and that it's stubborn and it doesn't go away. It's just always there, it's the understory, it's your hunger. You eat your breakfast and you've actually acted on a hope that you had to stay alive.
