Invisible Man - Ralph Ellison

This quote was added by user79640
Without light I am not only invisible, but formless as well; and to be unaware of one's form is to live a death. I myself, after existing some twenty years, did not become alive until I discovered my invisibility.

It isn't until we know what we are made of, those dark traits of ours that we ignore for some reason or another, that we become alive. They could be weaknesses, fears, whatever; we might ignore them with or without knowing; but they are part of what we are and we are not living until we acknowledge them.
