Anger is a secondary emotion. If someone is angry, they were something else first. That's why we say "try to understand where they're coming from." It means literally look for the origin of their anger, and speak to the initial emotion, not the anger itself.

Before I read this quote, I was something else. Now after I have read this quote, I have come from being something else to now being angry. That is where I am coming from; somewhere else, to being angry.
