We Should All Be Feminists - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

This quote was added by kaceyc
Because I am female, I am expected to aspire to marriage. I am expected to make my life choices always keeping in mind that marriage is the most important. Now marriage can be a source of joy and love and mutual support but why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage and we don't teach boys the same?

I kinda have to agree with you wessin because women aren't given the respect that they deserve but also the way they are treated when unmarried women when they are older are treated.

Have you ever noticed how an older, unmarried male is assumed to have chosen not to marry, focusing on his career instead? Whereas it is assumed that an older, unmarried woman has something fundamentally wrong with her, some undesirable trait that repelled prospective suitors and precluded her from realizing the presumably expected goal of "landing a husband"?
