Text: Decompensation is the second stage of shock. It occurs when regulation of blood flow via vasoconstriction and increased cardiac effort begins to fail. It can typically be recognized by a severely elevated heart rate and increased respiratory rate. The patient's blood pressure will begin to drop, signalling that immediate action must be taken if the patient is to live. Peripheral vessels will constrict to maintain perfusion to vital organs, leading to weak or absent pulses in the extremities. Each paragraph will be a test.
