You always think that 70 is the end of the road: Somebody died when they were 73; good life. You're closer to death, and you better make sure you don't waste too much of your time doing things you don't want to do. No point in saying things you don't believe in.

The problem is, because of our knowledge of our own mortality, time becomes so precious to us that literally nothing we can do with it justifies it's passage. No matter what we're doing, we are wasting time. We don't want to spend it on anything, but spend it we must. And every second that passes we can feel it slipping through our fingers.
