I will persists until I succeed (5th stanza) - Augustine Mandino

This quote was added by user74592
I will remember the ancient law of averages and I will bend it to my good. Each frown I meet only prepares me for the smile to come. Each misfortune I encounter will carry in it the seed of tomorrow's good luck. I must have the night to appreciate the day. I must fail often to succeed only once. I will persist until I succeed.

The poster is talking about regression to mean. It applies, in a figurative sense at least, to the examples listed.

There is no law of averages. There is a law of large numbers, but one life is a string of anecdotes, not a representative sample. "Luck" only exists in retrospect. There is no firm guarantee that the night will ever end.
