- Existentialism
Sartre famously writes in his play that "hell is other people." This line was to demonstrate a core tenet in his philosophical system of existentialism: that other people, in their presence and judgment, can be a source of existential anguish. Within our factive world, we are condemned to be free, which induces anxiety. The mere presence of other individuals exacerbates this problem. We must be careful in our expression of our freedom.
