Charles Spearin - Vanessa
I was born deaf, so people ask me over the years, "What do you hear?" And I couldn't really answer because I didn't know what it was like, what it was like to hear, so how could I compare? It was just the way life was for me, the way the world works for me. It was very natural for me not to hear the way you would hear. Lipreading came very naturally to me. Very sensitive to vibration, the movement of air in the house.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - The Dead Flag Blues
The car's on fire, and there's no driver at the wheel, and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides. And a dark wind blows. The government is corrupt, and we're on so many drugs, with the radio on and the curtains drawn. We're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine, and the machine is bleeding to death. The sun has fallen down, and the billboards are all leering. And the flags are all dead at the top of their poles.

Jeffrey and Jack Lewis - Williamsburg Will Oldham Horror
How long should an artist struggle before it isn't worth the hassle? And admit we aren't fit to be the one inside the castle? Is this quest for greatness or at least hipness just a scam and too much trouble? But then what makes one human being worthy of an easy ride? Born to be a natural artist you love or hate but can't deny. While us minions in our millions tumble into history's chasm, we might have a couple of laughs but we're still wastes of protoplasm.

The Books - We Bought the Flood
I was born with a teacup on my head. Copper tin and lead, ash and dust. Sky color: Indiana Red, like Kansas, Oklahoma, plus a thousand years of rust. Examine it carefully before it's set ablaze. Take it all in before it's gone, gone, gone. Let's notice everything, I mean every grain of salt. Let's be thorough to a fault and next time we'll build it twice as strong.

The Books - Smells Like Content
Most of all the world is a place where parts of wholes are described within an overarching paradigm of clarity and accuracy. The context of which makes possible an underlying sense of the way it all fits together, despite our collective tendency not to conceive of it as such. But then again, the world without end is a place where souls are combined, but with an overbearing feeling of disparity, disorderliness. To ignore it is impossible without getting oneself into all kinds of trouble.
