Ludwig Von Mises

Opium and morphine are certainly dangerous, habit-forming drugs. But once the principle is admitted that it is the duty of the government to protect the individual against his own foolishness, no serious objections can be advanced against further encroachments.

OK. so I looked up the qoute and Von Mises wasn't arguing for more government encroachment, he was arguing for less. Who ever put this quote in put it in wrong. Here is what I found Von Mises was saying. "(O)nce the principle is admitted that it is the duty of the government to protect the individual against his own foolishness, (w)hy not prevent him from reading bad books and bad plays? The mischief done by bad ideologies is more pernicious than that done by narcotic drugs."

Who believes that "it is the duty of the government to protect the individual against his own foolishness."? That is absolutely absurd.
