It could be worse? Thanks for adding anxiety about what else could go wrong to my sadness about how bad the situation is right now. Just because there are worse situations doesn't mean that this doesn't suck.

Bro, it's not that deep. Like they are trying to make u feel better about the situation and stop you from crying over something that could be worse. It's not gonna cause anxiety bruh. LOL. This is why laughing at people that are hurting is better than trying to calm them.

I totally relate to the sentiment you've expressed; sometimes I also just want to be allowed to feel sucky about the current moment. That said, I think it's important to give a charitable reading: someone who says "it could be worse" usually has good intentions, in that they're trying to appreciate the good in the current situation, rather than the bad in worse situations.
