Text: Decompensation is the second stage of shock. It occurs when regulation of blood flow via vasoconstriction and increased cardiac effort begins to fail. It can typically be recognized by a severely elevated heart rate and increased respiratory rate. The patient's blood pressure will begin to drop, signalling that immediate action must be taken if the patient is to live.
