Please don't tell me that you're going to give me something for free along with a $25 or any amount of money donation. The whole purpose of giving something away for free is so that it's a gift and no money changes hands. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I wouldn't pay the donation to a worthy cause. I'm simply saying that if you're going to ask for a donation from me, please don't pass it off as you're giving away something for free.

Also, in events that receive donations and then give you something for free, what's actually happening is that non of the donation is used to cover the costs of the "free stuff". So effectively, you're being given something for free, as the person giving it to you is assuming all the cost. Meanwhile, your donation goes to something else.

If you really want to feel good about yourself, accept that free stuff, and give it to somebody who actually needs it, or pass up on accepting it, so that someone else can take it.

Sometimes things are done, like serving food for instance, for a "suggested donation" because you would have to have some sort of license to actually sell the food. Like for a church dinner they do "donations" to get around this. At least, this is how I have been told it works.
