On Freedom of Speech and the Press (1737) - Benjamin Franklin

This quote wurde hinzugefügt von msantema
Freedom of speech is a principle pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved, and tyranny is erected on its ruins. Republics and limited monarchies derive their strength and vigor from a popular examination into the action of the magistrates.

Timely quote. Free speech about political topics of the day is most important any where and any time, otherwise the polity (the social structure) dissolves into either tyranny, illiterate slothful poverty, or chaos. Speech best not be "impolitic" meaning "failing to possess or display prudence; unwise." Nor rude and crude when those traits can be avoided in the context of the place and time.
