The Importance Of Posture

For any new keyboard warriors (or even seasoned ones in some cases), the Typing Tips on the website will greatly help you improve your WPM. However, something that was not really touched on was the importance of posture when it comes to typing.

Assuming the user is sitting down at a level table, there are a few pointers regarding posture to help you type more comfortably (specially during long sessions) and even more accurately compared to otherwise:

1. Plant both feet firmly in the floor.
2. Sit up almost straight with a slight arch in your back.
3. Place your hands on the keyboard and adjust your chair height so that your elbows are level with the keyboard.
4. Adjust the monitor (if possible) so that your eyes are level with the top border of the screen and tilt up the monitor slightly (again, if possible) so that you are looking down at it at an angle.

These are some of the most important things to remember when it comes to posture. Ultimately, however, it is perfect practice that makes perfect. So make sure to practice every day (specially if you're just starting out) and have fun while you do it.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions or if you have further recommendations, please let me know in the comments.

I know people lying down, or putting their legs on the desk and hitting over 80 wpm or 100 wpm, while upright exemplary posture people typing beneath 50 wpm

Posture is overrated. Work on your raw speed.
