It doesn't really work when keyhero doesn't think you've deleted an entire "word", and your placement on the game itself isn't the same as your placement on the actual typing box.

Have you learned touch typing? Touch typing definitely helps accuracy if you take the time to learn it.

Depending on how serious you are on typing fast you might want to consider learning a new layout, such as Colemak or Dvorak. I switched over to Dvorak when I averaged around 80wpm and now I average around 110wpm.

I'm currently at around 70-100 wpm when using various typing websites.

I tried typing with rhythm, read and spoke each word in the paragraph, and other possible methods of trying to get to 100% accuracy but none worked for me. I still made mistakes.

What helped me get through the Instant Death typing tests to always look a few words in advance and close my eyes so that I could concentrate on the spelling of each word. The speed drops to around 50wpm but at least I can get through multiple quotes without making any single mistake. Try it and see if it works for you. :)

Have you noticed any trends in what you miss? In my case (and this may be age related), most of my errors are not from hitting the wrong key, but from failing to push the key down when I do hit it - sometimes my fingers just seem to lock up. So while I usually get over 99% accuracy, if my fingers didn't do that, I'd probably be closer to 99.7 or so. That's actually a big difference as instead of one error in 100 characters, it would be 1 error in 333 or more.

But before I got to this point, I noticed certain characters were worse than others so I practiced words with those characters a lot. And sometimes I'd notice that it depended on the specific word. IOW, it wasn't just a certain letter, but the order of letters.

For this reason, sometimes I went to a website that just gives common words, but it has one nice thing that I haven't seen elsewhere. After a 1 minute test, it lists each word you missed AND how you misspelled it! I write the misspelled words in a text program and just keep typing those words over and over. Might not be the best choice for some purposes, but it's good for finding these problems:

The key to increasing typing accuracy is to read much slower. Actually, don't read the words in the quote, just see them one at a time. When I am doing an instant death test and I get 100% accuracy, my internal monologue sounds something like this: The. quick. brown. fox. jumps... Focus on one word at a time, and when you've finished typing it, hit space immediately. I think we always type the letter we're looking at. So, if you're reading ahead, "the lazy dog," but your fingers are still typing the 'r' in "over," you're more likely to type "ove rthe," or make some other mistake. The key to typing faster is accuracy, but in order to be more accurate, you have to slow your mind down, not your fingers.

So, keep working on the instant death tests. Train yourself to prioritize accuracy. Just see the words, don't read them. Always hit space once you finish a word; think of it as a part of the word instead of a break between two words. At first it will be painfully slow, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to go faster.
