Advice of fast typing

To have fast typing, the first thing you must do is remove everything else in your mind, and just think about the keyboard in front of you. Look at the keyboard, think of it as ABC even though it QWERTY, if you keep going on the computer for at least 1 hour every day, you should get the hang of it. Most reasons why people can't do fast typing is because all they think about is getting a mistake, just look at the screen. If you get a mistake, its fine. You can work on it later.

That is my advice on becoming a fast typer for an example, getting at least 54 WPM.
I listen to music with an upbeat tempo while I practice to help me keep up a pace, like playing the piano.

I'm not afraid to make a mistake. The key is to be aggressive on the keyboard, not timid.

I rather be rough, but this can make your keys fall out of your keyboard, even though you can put them back in, if they get popped out to much they could be permanently taken out and won't be able to put it back in, and you just broke it. But yes, if you want to be fast you would be not so rough but slightly hitting the keys abit harder than you would type slowly.

I don't mean you should pound the keys when I say you should be aggressive.

I am pretty sure you know what I mean.

It depends, I find myself being totally relaxed and 'un-agressive' when I get my max scores. Higher accuracy is the key.

Hello all, first thing I love this site, seems to be improving my typing skills.

I would like some advice from advanced types though.
I average about 58 wpm, I rest my palms on a palm rest.
I have been doing some research and it seems to be leading that really fast keyboarders don't rest their palms or wrist on anything, they hover their hands. I have tried this but seems very difficult to me. Any advise is appreciated.

I advise that you avoid hovering your hands over the keys to prevent strain to your wrists.

So that's why my wrist hurt so much.......

I type around 50-60 wpm. I'd like to get better and faster as well but have not been able to find a good formula to do so. What's your advice on this matter?

I totally agree with that. The more relaxed I seem to be the better, faster, and more accurate I seem to type and the better I seem to do!! That might be one of the keys to successful typing afterall!!

When I was in school, the teacher would play music and we had to keep in time with the beat. She started out slow, but increased the speed and that is how I got faster and better. I did fail typing class, but I can type.
