They wanted to be able to shower to clean up after working with garbage, as the white workers did. They wanted to have safe trucks, as the white workers had. They wanted to be seen as human beings. They wanted to be treated as human beings. When they marched, they wore signs that displayed what they considered their most important message. "I AM A MAN."
