It's just an expression from the 1950s or 60s I believe. It just means that you can't seem to win because things aren't going your way - things keep you from achieving your goals/getting what you want. Don't think of the word 'for' as being a possessive term (as in 'I bought a toy for my kid') - think of 'for' in this context as meaning 'due to' or 'because of'....so read this as 'we can't win because we're always losing'. I hope that made sense
