Create your own Typing Test

Von marc3 - aktualisiert: 8 Jahre, 2 Monate vor - 17 messages

I've been working on a variation of the typing test. The idea is to
let users use any content they want. I just provide a form where you
can enter any text of any length. The text will then be broken down
into typing tests based on the paragraphs. It could be used if you
want to try typing a quote before submitting it or if you wish to type
longer texts that cannot be added as quotes. Also you can use this if
you want to read/type an entire article.

Let me know what you think. I'm open to suggestions.

You read my mind. I've been hoping for something like this for a while.

Well, it won't let me post more than 5000 characters at a time. I like to practice on old novels in the public domain. Went through a lot of Jane Austin this way on another site. Just tried chapter 1 of Call of the Wild, but could only do a handful of paragraphs at a time.

You are right 5000 characters is not enough. I've bumped the limit
50000 characters.

If a paragraph begins and ends with a quote mark, the quote marks are getting stripped off.

That's the default clean-up when you add a quote. But you are right it
is better to leave them if it's one paragraph of a longer text. I have
made the change.

I like this very much - it would have saved a lot of time when I was posting many quotes from a single source ( as malevolarky)

Luke 6:35
But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

When you are spending time with that person you don't realize the time until it is gone... then you wish you would of treasured the time that you had with that person.

Neat feature - thank you for mentioning it on the other thread. Quick question - the "save" feature: that only saves the last five tests submitted by all users? In other words it's not like I'm creating my own "private library" of custom tests? I do not see where I can do a search for custom tests and the general search tool does not return results for a custom test. (I'm not saying it should, I'm only saying that this is the behavior that I observed.)

Again, a really neat little feature I hadn't tried out - thanks for pointing it out.

The custom tests are stored separately from the general quotes. At the moment, I'm only showing the 5 most recent tests but I'm saving all of them. It would make sense to also show all the saved texts of the current user. I'll make that change.

I've made a few changes to the custom typing test. Now there's a list of all the tests a user has added. Also, I've added a button on all quote pages to let you train on a specific quote. That feature is based on the custom typing test system.

Yes, I noticed the list of quoted I'd added below the last five from the general public. Thanks! I did find the "train on this quote button" too.

Love the "Train on quote" button!

Marc, thank you so much for this feature. Is there a way to delete a custom test that I've created so that it doesn't clutter my list? And is there a limit to how many custom tests I can create?

Hey, I've added a more button next to the custom tests list. On that new page you can delete tests.

Perfect. Thanks!
