Advise from 80 WPM & faster

Hello all, first thing I love this site, seems to be improving my typing skills.

I would like some advice from advanced types though.
I average about 58 wpm, I rest my palms on a palm rest.
I have been doing some research and it seems to be leading that really fast keyboarders don't rest their palms or wrist on anything, they hover their hands. I have tried this but seems very difficult to me. Any advise is appreciated.

I get normally between 70-80wpm with palms on desk.

I guess it depends on positioning height wise of the keyboard as well. The lower it is, the less requirement would be for resting your palms.

Hi user60944,

It is probably difficult for you because of your computer/desk setup. When I was in my first apartment, my room was really small and I had a regular mini table that my computer was put on, and I sat on the ground. Because of this setup, I noticed that my palms and wrists were lying on the table. However, now that I have a bigger room and a bigger desk (and a decent chair), I notice that it's simply natural for my wrists and palms to hover, and my forearms near my elbows are resting on the desk.

Honestly, I don't think it matters that much whether your wrists are hovering or not. I think when I use my laptop instead of my desktop, my wrists are on the laptop, and it doesn't really slow down my typing speed. I think as long as you are comfortable, you will be able to type well.

You may have a very good point, my desk it basically a table. When I am sitting straight up, the table is in between chest and belly button. I guess I really didn't think about that. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
