Another zoomer here, in my early 20s. Started touch typing this summer after many years of 'gamer typing' with left hand hovering over wasd and right hopping all over the shop.

I'm 17. Got tired of typing slow and I like the sound of the keys (I don't tell people that part lol).

22 over here. Been touch typing since middle school. But I'm not that great. Better than then. Like 80 wpm

I'm 21. Been trying to improve my typing speed since 17 when I stopped playing games on ps4 cuz it broke. Since then I just had to play on mouse and keyboard. Typing faster for me was just a plus of being obliged to play on M&K, I started getting higher speeds and started to like it, atm I main spanish which is my main language but soon I will try to do some typing on english to improve even more. Repetition is a huge key. But yea, I'm confident TouchTyping made it to gen Z.

I am 18. I've been practicing since I was around 16, so it wasn't really something that was passed down on to me.
While I can't verify post covid, in my high school there were plenty of people who were hunting and pecking.
It's not that there were not any attempts to pass it down (mostly by the school), it's just that none of it really stuck with anyone. I guess in stereotypical Zoomer fashion. Watching keyboard reviewers online was much more motivating than anything teachers gave us.

22, but it doesn't matter sinceI am immortal. Began typing in November 2019 after seeing others type at the speed of light and getting inspired to let them fell the bitterness of defeat by typing faster. Side information: I haven't yet succeeded on my valiant mission. Other than that, oddly enough, I thought the average age on this site is around 80 or more. but I am glad there is an age shift down. ʕ ゚ ● ゚ʔ

29. Learned in elementary, but never really used computers enough to get good at typing.

21, I just wanted to be able to brag to someone about being able to (eventually) type 80+ wpm. I still don't know who I'm going to brag to but I'm hoping it'll also help with finding computer-based jobs.

Just turned 16 a few weeks back, I practiced touch typing since like 13 years old.
Speed: 80-125 WPM (Around that ballpark).

I'm 17 and I have been able to correctly type with the home row method for about a year now.

I used about 5 fingers (pointers, middles, and a thumb). It wasn't hunt and peck, because I had a good feel for the layout of a keyboard, but I moved my hands around a lot, and I developed my typing style out of necessity for writing essays. I could probable do about 30-40 wpm back then.
Now, I use standard home row, and my average speed on this site has been hovering around 90 wpm. Practically speaking, I can type an essay at about 70 wpm when I don't have to think much about what I am writing.

I'm 14 and I had to learn to touch-type in, like, grade 4 with these stupid mats that we had to put over the keys so you couldn't see them, and yeah everyone said that I could type really fast soooo I just do it for fun now. I'm not the best, but the fastest I've ever gotten was like 110wpm I think?
By gem___ - posted: 2 years, 3 months ago

Dude same, I'm 14 though.

I am 22, though I only made an account within the last year since people say I type fast and I just wanted to measure it every now and then. I would say I have probably been typing fast since middle school probably. I spent too much time on the Internet back in the day. I still do, but I used to, too.

I'm 21, and I started learning touch typing last year after I bought my first mechanical keyboard. I got no particular reason to do so, but I study Information Technology, so touch typing is kinda useful to me
By midnightiris - posted: 2 years, 3 months ago

I'm 20, I just started trying this out this week. I was job searching and saw that most stay at home jobs (I'm a stay at home mom) require certain wpm and accuracy percentages if you're going to be working with a computer so I wanted to start practicing and getting better.
By paulofg_ - posted: 2 years, 2 months ago

16!! I started because i love how the keyboard sounds when i write and like when people tell me that i can type really fast

I'm 17,
I've been at it since middle school lol. can't say I've improved a ton to where I'm an amazing typist but hey from averaging from 25 to 41 is a sizable jump I guess.
Also when I do this it looks like I'm very focused and doing important work so teachers never question it ;)

38 here. Was curious what my wmp actually was as people always say I type fast. I'll say I can type fast but not super accurate. Back space key is used a lot!!! Been typing with the home row keys since elementary when it was required as part of computer class.

By aintni - posted: 2 years, 1 month ago

I'm 15 but started typing 4 years ago because my mother owned a book about it. I'm starting to take it seriously this year, and I believe that's why my typing speed is so low.

30 something. I used this site since 2020 to familiarize myself with my new ergonomic keyboard. Started at 40 wpm, now 95-120 wpm range. I believe after I hit 100, the progress is much slower to increase it.

By user751476 - posted: 2 years ago

I'm 25 and I've been on this website for almost 4 years now. I learned touch typing in high school and I was the fastest typist in there because all the other kids only took that class to goof off. I was about 60 wpm when I started and I'm coasting on above 80 wpm currently but I can go over 100 wpm sometimes when I'm on a good condition. The only barrier to get to over 100 wpm is the stutter typing that often happens when I literally can breeze through words easily. I don't know if its my mechanics or just that I'm incorrectly trained and that all my errors get reinforced instead of culled and corrected.
By rvanb - posted: 2 years ago

I'm 22, been on this site for quite a few years but don't do as many typing tests as I used to. I've been touch typing since middle school so I'm pretty fast now (120-130 WPM on average). That said, I don't think my finger placements are the "correct" or recommended ones, the fingers I use on keys sometimes changes with context.

I'm at 20, have touch typed since I'm a junior high-school student (which is around 2015-2016). Max speed so far is 120 WPM, but still stabilizing my typing speed so that it can be constant at around 100 WPM.

By tssreniasoars - posted: 1 year, 12 months ago

33. Used this site to train on dvorak at first, like, 4-6 years ago?
Didn't work great for coding, so I went to colemak.
Got a bad burnout and needed to relearn to type, switched back to dvorak. Given I've been on an ergodox for a bit, positioning of special characters is less of a problem now.

Been using it on and off. Had one account, wanted to reset the stats and couldn't recreated it. Used it anonymously for a bit, and recreated a fresh one recently for relearning dvorak.
By quantom - posted: 1 year, 12 months ago

I learned Colemak through keybr. Allowed me to slowly get used to the format and nail basics one key at a time before moving on to harder keys.

By cube- - posted: 1 year, 11 months ago

I only just turned 20 last week. I started to learn touch typing around the age of 16 during school nights cuz I was just bored and enjoyed typing. Since I spent a lot of time on the computer and always played games, I had my own way of typing but it wasn't very fast at all, so I wanted to change it altogether and finally learned how to actually touch type. I used to be typing at around 60wpm when I first started, but now I'm hovering around 100-130WPM.
By xxkittenmittonsxx - posted: 1 year, 11 months ago

Why would you think the average age on a typing website to be in the 80's? Do you know anyone 65+? They're not exactly known for picking up new skills
By corpomorto - posted: 1 year, 11 months ago

Ironically I am now dead (I deleted my previous account) and continue to exist as something similar to zombie. As for age, maybe it was never about biological age, but rather about spiritual age… jokes aside, I just exaggerated, because I got the feeling that most users either teenagers or adults in their 40’s and 50’s, never thought that majority of the typist in this site are late teens and young adults.
